Saffron And Depression

Alternative Safeway for Managing Depression

Depression is a common and critical medical illness today. In some cases, the negative impact it creates on a person leads to death. It almost makes your brain paralyzed and affects your thinking and acting ability. You start feeling sad and lose interest in the activities you used to enjoy.

There are some adjunctive treatments in major depressive disorders to control severe as well as mild to moderate depression.

Depression is becoming more serious than ever in recent years and the medications and antidepressants people are taking start losing their effect over time. In fact, there have been noticeable adverse effects that make the situation worse.

To avoid these effects and treat the patient better, many researchs have been made that include many different organic compounds and natural products with minimum side effects and maximum control of the illness. One of the products is saffron which is very useful in mood rehabilitation therapy.

Saffron was being used in Persian traditional medicine for depression and now many modern-day pieces of research have led us to the fact that consuming saffron is positive towards mood. Saffron is the stigma of the flower called saffron crocus sativus. It is one of the most expensive spices in the world that is used in cooking and the people who use it daily with tea or milk feel more relaxed and less anxious.

Is saffron good for depression?

Saffron is no doubt a great addition in treating major depressive disorders that also minimize the side effects like anxiety, sexual dysfunction, OCDs, and suicidal thoughts. The active saffron constituent as an adjunctive treats depression almost like medicines. But you need to consult your doctor first to understand the severity of your illness.

Research has been made to conclude the effectiveness of saffron in comparison with Fluoxetine (an antidepressant medication to treat depression and in some cases, obsessive-compulsive disorder). It turns out that saffron is well comparable with Fluoxetine and placebo.
